Destruction of Aboriginal Corroboree Ground on the Grassland Hill Top in Royal Park

We are holding a silent protest at the drill site on the grassland hill top in Royal Park to the north of the Royal Children’s Hospital.  The protest is over the East West Link and the fact that it is bulldozing its way through Royal Park and through the historic Aboriginal corroboree site. We regards drilling on a traditional aboriginal site as sacrilege. It is also sacrilege destroying precious parkland

When : 12 noon Friday 16 November

Where: We are meeting at the corner of Bayles and Gatehouse Streets in Parkville Melways Map Page 43 3F  We will then walk up the path in Royal Park to the hilltop.  The drilling rig should be evident. Parking in Gatehouse Street, Bayles St or nearby streets.  Tram up Royal Parade get off at Gatehouse Street and walk down Gatehouse Street.  Tram along Flemington Road Get off and walk up Gatehouse Street.
Organised by: Protectors of Public Lands Victoria Inc and the Royal Park Protection Group Inc.Note 25 groups recently gave their names as supporting our actions at the rally run by YCAT Yarra Campaign for Action on Transport and supported by Yarra Council on 22 September 2012

Note that we asked Linking Melbourne Authority NOT to drill in the grasslands until they had presented their “Business Case” for the EW Link to the Government in February next. And not until a final decision was made by the Government as to the route of the EW Link.  At first they agreed but now have changed their minds. Please attend.  This is one of the last snap protests we will hold .  Give up an hour of your time.

  1. Aboriginal Sites, FAUNA, Rare inner city FLORA, Landmarks soon GONE! Homes Not Houses acquired. It’s now 2014 and nearly April. Parkville’s only REMNANT RED GUM FOREST is under imminent danger. The birds and possums, which fought with each other, for new nesting homes after the STOLENWEALTH, “Commonwealth Games Village” (takeover of land) in Parkville West which destroyed their homes will once again be losers like us, folk doomed to years of construction noise, dust and traffic congestion.

Royal Park EW Link were asked to not drill in grasslands, by Protectors of Public Lands Victoria Inc and the Royal Park Protection Group Inc way back in 2012. (Note 25 groups gave their names as supporting these actions. Rally was run by YCAT Yarra Campaign for Action on Transport and supported by Yarra Council on 22 September 2012)
